This is the copy of the famous icon “Our Lady of Perpetual Help”. The earliest written account of the image comes from a Latin and Italian plaque placed in the church of San Matteo in Via Merulana where it was first venerated by the public in 1499. The writer of the icon is unknown. The icon illustrates the sacred secrets of Christ's life: joyful (Child Jesus), grieving (cross, an instrument of passions) and glorious (golden background of icons). Pray for the help in life's tribulations and trials, the happy union of those who are in separation, the lonely and abandoned people, the healing of the spiritual and bodily infirmities.
The iconiscreated on a traditional wooden base with set oflevkas, a chalk-based natural glue, and a gold background. The icon is printed on a silk canvas and the final details are hand-painted by the iconographer. High-quality icon, with bright colors and the icon, seems like a hand-painted icon. Upon completion of the transcription, a few finishing touches are incorporated following special techniques of the St. Pantaleon monastery.
