This is the reproduction of a famous icon “Virgin of Sorrows - Seven Arrows”. The image of the Virgin with arrows alarming the uninitiated. But the meaning of the arrows is not at all in belligerence. They symbolize the pain and grief posed by the mother of Christ in the earthly life. The number of arrows is not randomly chosen - the number seven in Orthodoxy is considered a symbol of completeness and integrity. They mean that Our Lady drank a cup of earthly grief completely. According to some religious sources, seven arrows in the breast of the Virgin symbolize seven mortal sins, from which it is capable and ready to defend.
